Baxter Park & Mt. Katahdin with Chris Toy
with RSU 5 Community Programs
Mt. Katahdin is #2 on National Geographic’s top 10 summits worldwide! Check Baxter Park and Mt. Katahdin off your bucket list (weather permitting!) AND enjoy great camp cooking with Registered Maine Guide and chef Chris Toy for 3 days, Saturday-Monday in late September/early October. Park rules only allow reservations 4 months in advance. There will be a required meeting one month before the trip. This is a strenuous trip requiring uphill hiking for 6 hours at a stretch carrying a backpack weighing at least 12 lbs. Please note: Our group will stay together for the whole trip. We will gain the summit as a team or no one will.
Chris Toy will host an Info Night on Thursday, June 28 at 7:00 pm, Freeport Middle School Library. Please email Kelli at email@example.com if you plan to attend.
Price: $175 (includes Registered Maine Guide, camping fees, 2 breakfasts, 2 dinners, and 1 lunch). Transportation is not included.

In conjunction with The Driving School, driver education classes are offered at Gray-New Gloucester High School. You MUST be 15 years old before the first class. Bring the following to class: Certified copy of birth certificate, Social Security Number, pen & paper. To register call Mullens at 892-8851.

Tours of Flavors: Union and Appleton
with RSU 5 Community Programs
Fall in love with Midcoast Maine’s farm country and discover the hidden gems of Appleton and Union! They have it all, as far as local flavors go! Explore the rolling hills of Appleton: enjoy a tour of Glendarragh Lavender Farm, learn about making goat cheese at Appleton Creamery, and savor a mouth-watering, locally-sourced lunch at Deer Foot Farm Market. Next stop: Highcroft Farm! Discover the art of spinning and dyeing yarn (from resident sheep, goats, and angora rabbits!), tour the farm, gardens, and gift shop (featuring handmade goods, art and antiques). Last, but not least: Sweetgrass Winery in Union! Enjoy a wine tasting with scenic views of the Medomak Valley to fully appreciate the flavors of the region. Summer is on its way, so let’s celebrate in true Maine style! Lunch, wine tasting and tour included in cost. Please wear appropriate footwear for walking and dress in layers for the weather. Rain or shine. Please bring an insulated cooler bag if you plan to purchase grocery items at the farms.
