Grow Your Own Organic Garden!

An introduction to the basics of organic gardening! Interested in learning how to grow your own vegetables in a sustainable manner? Join us for an evening-long workshop on how to grow your own garden organically. We’ll talk about the basics of soil science and how to enrich your soil to produce healthy, high-yielding plants. The course will also cover the fundamentals of making and using compost, the principles of crop rotation and how to incorporate green manures to manage nutrients in the garden. Other topics will include how to tell the difference between cultivated plants and weeds, basic weed control strategies and cultural methods for dealing with pests. The instructor will be an experienced farmer or gardener from your region. We will even send you home with free seeds! All are welcome, from first-timers to experienced gardeners who want to experiment with new techniques.

Hunter Safety: Firearm Skills and Exam Day

The Dept. of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife's Hunter Education Course is more than a 'gun safety' class. The basic mandatory course is taught by trained, certified volunteer instructors according to statewide standards. The course is made up of an "at home" portion before the classroom instruction. #1 - Students must successfully complete the free online Official Maine Hunter Safety Course at: https://www.hunter-ed.com/maine/ #2 - Students print their voucher (that is valid for one year) and this will allow attendance at a Skills and Exam Day. Please make sure you print this voucher and bring it with you. #3 - Students register for the Skills and Exam Day! #4 - Students bring a complete survival kit with them to Skills and Exam Day. Please note: if you arrive at Skills and Exam Day without your voucher and survival kit, you will not be able to complete the course. No refunds will be issued.

Maine’s Driving Dynamics course offers all drivers the opportunity to improve their defensive driving abilities. This five-hour course will include discussion of collision avoidance techniques, safety issues, driver habits and attitudes, and the basic elements that constantly challenge drivers on Maine highways. Students completing the course will receive a three-point credit on their driving record. A Certified Maine Driving Dynamics Instructor teaches this course.

This course teaches safe food handling, how to protect public health through food safety best practices, and much more. Join Instructor Stuart Leckie for this one-day certification workshop or join us to review and test for your recertification.
